The Sleeping Giant Rouses
September 06, 2017
Is the sleeping giant finally starting to open his eyes? I recently saw a head-line of a story in which a member of NAACP’s leadership said: (Slight paraphrasing) “Black people have been pimped like prostitutes by the Democratic Party.”
WOW! Ya Think?
Well, that must be wrong, right? After all, from roughly the time of LBJ, blacks have pledged their loyalty to Democrat candidates. For the most part, they’ve voted a straight Democrat ticket year after year.
To understand why, you need to know a little history. During the sixties, the country was still suffering a severe racial divide. The Vietnam Nam war was emerging as an unpopular and polarizing national issue. Earlier in the decade, a much loved John Kennedy had been assassinated and replaced by a somewhat unloved Lyndon Johnson. It was a lot for Americans to process. Add to all that extreme unemployment in the black community, higher than average black dropout rates, and a lower than average wage earned by most blacks.
That’s when Lyndon Johnson, ruthless in his approach to politics and not likely to miss a chance to score political points, came along with his “great society” program. In essence this was the beginning of a massive welfare system.
Johnson was quoted by biographer Ronald Kessler as saying at one point in talking about blacks, “we’ve got to give them a little something, just enough to quiet them down, not enough to make a difference... I'll have them n_____s voting Democratic for the next two hundred years.”
It was an unbelievable insult and the height of cynical arrogance believing that by giving proud, hard working people free stuff, he could buy their loyalty for 200 years.
Now, I’m well aware that Johnson’s apologists — primarily his fellow liberal Democrats and the leaders of the poverty industry in this country — claim Johnson only said such things to get the votes of southern Democrat racists for his “Great Society” programs.
But let’s look at the results of Johnson’s actions.
Blacks suffering with 50 years of “free stuff” are seeing now that the free stuff is mostly government crap.
Receiving Johnson’s free stuff did NOTHING to ultimately solve their deplorable situation. In fact, there are facts a-plenty to show that most government programs contributed to even more — and more stubborn — poverty, crime, incarceration, failing schools, drug use, gang violence, community blight, political corruption, and a myriad other soul killing outcomes.
These government programs did little to nothing to help the most vulnerable black families accomplish their most cherished goal of helping kids gain a better life than their parents.
Obama did his level best to build on LBJ’s Great Society failures. More money, and more crappy free stuff continued to lock blacks in societal hand-cuffs.
Obama spent millions advertising the availability of food stamps,‘Obama’ phones, and easy government aid. What he didn’t advertise because they didn’t actually exist were educational or work programs aimed at getting blacks off government assistance and into meaningful jobs.
Fortunately, blacks are starting to see the truth. Blacks are starting to ask why after 50 years of promises, there are so few jobs and opportunities.
Blacks are rightly asking why all the focus on transgender bathrooms instead of economic growth … why the constant narrative of victimization and division rather than real solutions … why are Democrats so focused on defending, promoting, and funding an organization that was founded to prevent blacks from reproducing. Today Planned Parenthood still aborts 300,000 black babies each year.
Sorry LBJ and Obama, and all you other progressives who believe that black voters are solidly in your court. They are NOT! Blacks are growing tired of Democrat “masters” who only show up at election time, but fail to match their promises with real results the rest of the time.
Perhaps that realization shows most vividly on the issue of education. Blacks are asking why Democrats hold so loyally to teacher unions even when that loyalty is destroying any chance their children have for a better, more productive, more meaningful future. Blacks are starting to insist on education alternatives that give families a choice where their children can go to school. And they want occupational training at community colleges that provide their children the skills needed for great, high paying jobs. Blacks know that better schools are their children’s best opportunity for a better future, and their best chance to reject the crappy “free stuff” from government.
Beware Democrats. Black America is the sleeping giant that is beginning to wake up. And when they do, your ability to “pimp them like prostitutes” will be over.
